Avacend Solutions has woven into its business fabric the ideals of diversity. As a woman and minority owned company, Avacend Solutions understands the challenges and opportunities that are presented to companies like ours. We appreciate those challenges and opportunities because they make us stronger and more responsible as a company.

When I joined Avacend as HR, I soon realized that Avacend is a company which was created, owned and led by Women, so being an inclusive employer was natural, and I had to make sure I carried that vision along. Over the last 20 years we have created opportunities across the globe for various minorities like – LGBTQ and women. This is more unique for our organization as we work in industries like telecom where it is predominantly male oriented. There have been times in our company where our workforce has been more than 50% women in my tenure. Those are the metrics that makes me proud as an HR of this organization.

I am also proud to say that “I am India’s First Transgender HR Manager”.

I joined Avacend in 2009 in an executive position and to take care of a single project of Tamil Nadu but later my company recognized my dedication and team work and promoted me as an HR Manager.

I openly came out in 2015, when I revealed my true gender, (which was kept confidential during recruitment) which is Third Gender, my Company Founder – President and my CEO embraced me as a woman and supported me in every possible way for my Gender Transition from a Male to Female.

In the last 7 years, I had the privilege of rehiring most of our women employees back to the workforce who have left the company due to maternity and relocation. They reached out to us after 2 – 3 years gap, but when they rejoined us, their dedication and passion was an inspiration to all of us. Some of our staff who could not come back to full time roles due to personal constraints like child care were given work from home option.

Our CEO, Kalpana Anantaraman often shares this message with us on diversity.

“It is very important that diversity embraces us and we do not seek diversity to fulfill some metrics.

We as an organization are very fortunate to experience such a diverse workforce in a company our size. Every opportunity we get to be inclusive is a step towards a better organization and a happier society”.
